Here is a heads up about Windex

I was shooting my Garand with surplus ammo. Corrosive ammo. I took Windex along for the range. After shooting and before the barrel had completely cooled I poured the Windex down it. The Windex came right back up like a volcano. Once the barrel was cooled the Windex stayed down. If I did not have safety glasses on I would have gotten Windex in the eyes. I had never heard of that happening before so I was not expecting it. It was quite entertaining.
The Garand was flawless and no M1 thumbs at the range

The ammonia is supposed to help break down the corrosive residue from surplus ammo. I however just use Hoppes #9 and haven't had an issues yet.

Most windex being sold today doesn't have ammonia so keep that in mind when you go to buy it.

Water is fine and hot water is best. Windex isn't necessary.

I use cheap window cleaner, walmart brand, just make sure is has ammonia. I do not know what ammonia-d is. I have never had a problem using the cheap stuff.
Clean with hoppes when I get home.

Ammonia-D is Windex's trademark for ammonia since you cannot trademark a common chemical name.
