Question on Beretta 96 serial #
Picked up a 96 D in NP3 finish, PSP logo, today.
Curious about the serial #. It has an M at the end; BER xxxxxx M.
What does the M stand for? I have/had other PSP models like this in the blued finish and they have no M at the end.

Firearm Technical Data Search Form
Now you can enter the serial number of your firearm and be directed to the correct schematic for it as well as order parts through our partners Brownells, Inc. and Midwest Gun Works. Additionally, you can see the approximate date of manufacture as well as being able to view/download an owners manual and product literature relevant to your firearm when we have the information available.
Please enter the serial number of your firearm below and click search. This application only works for firearms imported and distributed by Beretta USA Corp. and is updated on a regular basis.
For the search to work, please enter your serial number in all UPPERCASE letters and numbers with no spaces between the characters. Be certain to not confuse numeric and alphabetic characters, such as O's for zeros or we will be unable to locate your serial number. Only enter the serial number and no additional information. Do not insert spaces between any character in your serial number. For example: use BER431605 and not BER 431605.
If there is a "Y" at the end of your serial number, please omit this character when entering your serial number.
Thanks for choosing Beretta!

Re: Question on Beretta 96 serial #
Looks like the "M" just means .40 cal. on this older (1993) model Beretta.

From Beretta's Ask a Question pages:
The current production pistols produced in the Beretta USA Accokeek, MD facility have the serial numbers starting with BER and do not have any of the "letter characters" on the suffix. The older models started with BER and ended with a Z in 9mm, and M for .40 caliber.

Re: Question on Beretta 96 serial #
I saw your post about your PSP 96. I got one two weeks ago and is untouched with the usual wear. Would like to get refinished, possibly NP3, but do not want to lose the logo. Was wondering how it is on yours. Thanks.

Re: Question on Beretta 96 serial #
Leave it as is. That's honest wear of a firearm that was carried daily by a State Trooper. Hell, it may have even been mine.
Which one do you have? The NP3 finished ones had the patch stamped into the frame. The black ones have the patch laser engraved. The patch will disappear if you refinish a black one. The logo may remain on the stamped ones depending on how thick the coating is and how deep it was stamped."A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself"
