G19 gen 3 extraction issues?
so some months ago, at the height of the panic, I upgraded my edc from a small kahr to a G19.
I'd read about gen 4 issues so I tracked down a lightly used gen 3, slapped on some 10-8s and an extended mag release and have fired maybe 700 or so rounds through it in classes and range practice.
Last trip I started to notice erratic ejection. I had a stovepipe (my fault, I may have had my left thumb pressed against the slide instead of frame), and then started noticing ejection started going over my head. Then I took two or three to the face, followed by one or two more over my head and through my hair.
Could late gen 3s have the same problem as 4s?
In competition or self defense this probably isn't really an issue as I'd be so focused and pumped I doubt I'd notice, but, if it's a sign of a known issue I'd like to know and resolve the problem. I hear glock offers an upgraded ejector? And Alex also has aftermarket ejectors? Is this something I should look into?
Thanks for any wisdom you guys drop on me!interested in a cz kadet kit, if anyone's selling

What's the number stamped into the extractor?

Re: G19 gen 3 extraction issues?
I have one of the early gen 4 19s and have had none of those problems. It will throw brass in a pile.
Take a good look at the extractor.FOAC Member, NRA Member

Re: G19 gen 3 extraction issues?
There are some Gen3 9mms having problems too. Couple threads on other forums point towards the ejector and extractor. Others claiming the ejection port itself needs lowered further. And yet others claiming there is no "real" fix, just temporary ones. I've seen the the spectrum of ejection issues, gen3 and 4. Just seems the Gen4 issues are easier remedied with an ejector change (pending which ejector number you have already).
I wouldn't dump any money into Apex or similar aftermarket parts. I'm a firm believer in making Glock fix the issues...

Re: G19 gen 3 extraction issues?
It's been a mix of federal, wolf, Tula, WWB, and maybe others.
The last 200 have been WWB I scored at a Wally World a few weeks ago
I'll take a look at the ejector tonight. What's the deal with the numbers on the extractor? What does that signify?interested in a cz kadet kit, if anyone's selling

Re: G19 gen 3 extraction issues?
The WWB was notorious for causing extraction and ejection problems in M&Ps. I'd stay away from it if it doesn't run reliably.
If it happens with all your ammo, contact Glock as DBZ220 said and see what they can do before replacing with aftermarket parts unless you like to do that.
You can go to M4carbine.net to read all about Glock problems, and pretty much evey other gun for that matter.

Re: G19 gen 3 extraction issues?
The number in the ejector was 336
I cleaned it last night and holy crap I found RUST on it! I've never seen that on a firearm of mine. I was caught in a good rainstorm a week or so ago. I guess I was just lazy with cleaninginterested in a cz kadet kit, if anyone's selling

Re: G19 gen 3 extraction issues?
Gen3's as early as prefix M (June 2010) are reported to have the ejection problem. And it's been common for the issue NOT to surface until about the 1K round count.
Some argue it has to do with the shift from forged to MIM parts and / or the "dipped" LCI extractors. It's best to start with the ejector and RSA upgrades Glock offers.Last edited by TonyF; September 9th, 2013 at 08:56 PM.
