    Default .32acp recommendations

I've been taking my wife shooting lately and she wants her own gun. Her favorite was my Springfield XD 9mm. Today she shot a friends .32 acp and said she likes shooting that caliber a lot more.

I know nothing about .32 acps. I am going to do a forum search and additional research to see what I can find, but was wondering if anyone has and comments or recommendations about .32 acps. She did say that she wants one with a safety, the one she shot today had a heavy trigger pull and no safety.

She has been trying to get comfortable with the idea of eventually carrying. She enjoys shooting at the range but does not want to carry yet. I'm not pressuring her to carry but figure if we get a gun she feels really comfortable with she may make the jump on her own.

    Any info?

    Thanks in advance.

I'm sure many will tell you 32 is under powered - but it's a nice little caliber and I like it. I have several older 32's. For modern, I have the Berretta Tomcat. Nice little gun, safety, and a tip up barrel - great for ladies who can't rack a slide. Only negative I have is it is chunky for a small gun. She will have to hold it. Kel-Tec makes a popular 32 - I just hate Kel Tec and would never buy one. Seecamp is suppose to be pretty nice - but pricey.
North American Arms makes a neat little 32 auto. Good luck

Does she know why she wants a safety?

Serious question, as many people think a safety means the handgun is "safer" than a handgun without one. Which is not necessarily true.

Good question and something that I did not think to talk to her about. I will make this part of our discussion and I will have her do some reading on the subject. To answer your question though, she does associate a safety with safer and mentally that might take her a while to get past.

These guns have an extended tang behind the hammer to protect from hammer bite and the slide cutting the strong hand in two parallel lacerations. Also, the Walther handles the .32 ACP better than the .380 ACP, and they have a hammer drop / FP block safety. I have a Walther /S&W PPK/S in SS and it's a big hit with the wimmenz. Accurate, too.

I like what I've been reading about the Walther. Been searching online gun stores for .32's and they are harder to find in stock than an honest politician in Washington.

A Keltec P32 might not be the gun for her. I have seven and they go bang every time. Some people dont like them, others do! My step daughter loved shooting my P32. The long trigger pull is the safety! 32 ammo may be hard to find also!
