    Default reloading question

    Hi everyone,
I am reloading .300 Savage. I have federal brass that was once fired and when I resize the brass it gets a bright ring near the lower base of the brass. I am loading only light loads and I have the resize properly set up and the brass was trimmed before resizing.

I have only noticed this with Federal brass, the Remington brass has a very slight mark in the same location but I assume that I just because the ring appears at the lowest point of contact between the resizing die and the brass.

I can't seem to find any problem with the brass other than the brighter ring at the base. After resizing the brass fits into chamber freely.

Has anyone else ever noticed this before when resizing rifle brass? Should i be worried about reloading this brass again? Normally I get at least 6 reloads from .300 savage brass.

    Thanks

sorry no pictures maybe i can get some posted

It is no problem - very common when FL sizing bottleneck cases. The ring is at the height of the case web - the distance to the inside/base of the primer flash hole. I have some cases the ring really shows up - others it is hard to see.

Question - you say the brass was trimmed before resizing (?); I'm sure you meant it was trimmed after resizing... right?

That was a typo on my part. I trim after it is resized.

    Thanks for the information

Federal (FC) marked cases? If so I get the same thing re-loading FC for .308, seems to be common with federal brass, maybe it is thinner than most.

Yes they are Federal cases. I only notice the ring with federal cases.
