Default 22LR ammo price... worth it or not?

The Walmart around me finally got some 22 ammo in stock. The guy said 550 count pack of Winchester 22LR HP's for $23.99?!... Is that really the going price, or am I confused about how much a 550 round box should cost? I am pretty sure last year in July I got a box of 550 (I think they were the Federal bulk pack though) for $15 or maybe even less. I don't remember exactly.

Long story short is 550 rounds of 22 ammo worth $24?

A few years ago that box of 550 would have cost about $18 to $20. So $24 is not a bad price.

A few months ago that box could have gone for some crazy prices. Isaw one add on CL for $100.

I don't like Winchester ammo. But $24 for a bulk pack right now is fine. I would have no problem paying that.

If you passed on it it's gone. I jump on any I see because I don't see any.

They are Winchester 22 hollow points.. That is something different, for me at least. I didn't know they made HP 22's..

I guess I can swing by and pick up a box then if they are still there in 30 mins or so. I just wanted to make sure that that price wasn't way above where it should be. I don't like to feed the frenzy of overpricing, though I heard that has died down a bit.

Just got back from Walmart with 2 boxes.. The guy behind the counter asked if I wanted 556 ammo... apparently they got in 1000 round boxes of 556 and are selling them for $440 (ish) dollars, if I heard him correctly lol.

If anyone is in the area, there might still be some boxes of 22 left at the Bristol Walmart. Just a heads up in case someone was looking for some.

That's a fair price for the 22LR for sure.

I think it was $20-22 in the fall but walmart seems to have raised all ammo +-$2 on all types since then wwb 9mm was $24 per 100 when I got some the other day

That is definitely a decent price. I was paying between $19-$21 for Federal and CCi bulk packs (525/500) a year or so ago. During the down swing of the panic they were still trying to get $60-$70 for bulk packs on Gunbroker. Also as someone mentioned above Walmart did increase prices a few bucks about a month or two ago. Most of it was on Federal brand ammo as their contract was renewed around that time.
The issue I would have is all the negative reviews I have read on the Winchester bulk. Seems Remington gets the same, but people went crazy over it when it was showing up frequently at wally world a few weeks back. So who knows.

I paid $24.99 for 333rounds few months back when no one had .22LR.
So I think that's about right price.

I miss the days when 555rds Federal brick was $13...
