    Default my first mosin

Well this past Friday I picked up my first mosin nagant from hill top arms. When they showed up at the shop 5 came in still packed covered in cosmoline. Well a few weeks later I asked about buying one so I was taken in the back and we unpacked all 5 looking each one over an that was my first experience with cosmoline ( and won't be my last) I picked out the one I wanted. Tonight I decided to start cleaning it of the cosmoline n man is that stuff nasty lol. Well long story short I bagged the rifle in a black trashbag, hung it from the rafters in the garage with a hair dryer ziptied at the opening n sweated it for about 10 min then wiped as much of the stuff off as I could. Well I have to say it is looking NICE. I can't wait to have it all cleaned up and ready to take to the range. Hopefully here soon pictures will be posted on

It won't be your last. They are a lot of fun to shoot. Did you get the rifle or the carbine?

I picked up a rifle. I would like a carbine but am happy with the rifle. Looking it over lastnight all the serial numbers match. I know it won't be my last cause I want to keep this one original and get another one to put a scope on it

You are so screwed, they breed faster than rabbits, you will spend hours looking for the cheapest surplus ammo, at one time i had 8, m44s, i was possessed, now i have just 1, gave 7 to friends, i cried, depressed for weeks, but i am better now, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Lol yes I have been warned that it won't be my last n I hope its not. Is like to find a carbine now. I still haven't finished cleaning it yet ( that pesky thing called jobs keep getting in Tue way) but I do love how in 2 min n with a flathead screwdriver it can be completely broken down!!!! I'd like to have it ready and myself comfortable with it for this coming rifle season. Can't wait to get it back together and out to the range with it.

There are a lot of websites devoted to the Mosin. I used to be touch with a deputy sheriff in Montana who is married to Russian and visits Russia regularly. I can't find his site online now. Maybe it's all a was.

If interested in mounting an optical sight, here's something interesting:
