Default Concealed Carry in PA State Parks?

Is anybody or any group presently working on getting the PA law against licensed CCW in PA State Parks changed?

I have an Ohio CHL, as well as a PA non-resident License to Carry Firearm.

Ohio, even with it's many illogical and restrictive carry laws, at least allows carry in Ohio State Parks, and city parks, but it seems that PA does not.

Anybody in PA working to try to get this no-carry in PA State Parks law changed?

Yes. A bill has recently passed the PA House with an amendment attached that will do exactly that. It still needs to be passed in the Senate and be signed into law. The good new is that the bill itself imposes stricter penalties for serial number tampering, so the anti's can't kill it despite the fact it has several amendments attached that we've been wanting.

City parks in PA are fine. There is no state prohibition, and municipalities are specifically preempted from enacting their own measures (despite signs or LEO opinions that may indicate otherwise).

Thanks for the info. Hopefully the PA Senate will also pass that bill, but then does it still have to go Governor Rendell. He is basically anti-gun, isn't he?

Yes, but as I mentioned, the bill itself is being touted as "tougher gun law". Despite opposition on several of the amendments, it passed the House unanimously, because the Democrats can't be caught voting against tougher penalties for gun crime. Excellent strategy is paying off.

I think I've read it before but is there anything the DCNR boys can do to you if they catch you carrying or just throw you out like everywhere else?

In a State Park, you can be issued a citation. On other DCNR lands (state forests, etc.) they have no standing to even ask you to leave, IMO.

breaking a DCNR regulation (which is what the no guns in state parks is) is a summary offense.

according to PA law, you can go to jail for 90 days for a summary offense, but i don't think anyone ever actually does go to jail for them.

aslo, as gnbrotz pointed out, this regulation applies only to state parks, not other DCNR land like state forests. carrying in state forests is perfectly legal.

You'll need to apply with your own county Sheriff. According to info collected by members here, the cost is $25 for a paper license and $30 for a plastic one.
