    Default 9mm-- worth keeping?

Okay, so I'm beginning to get a little frustrated at the lack of availability, or high market price, of 9mm ammo. I'm frustrated enough that I'm giving serious thought to selling my 9mm and getting a .40S&W instead. Right now, .40 ammo goes for the same price as equivalent 9mm ammo, and there was no shortage of it early in the year when everyone was freaking out.

I hesitate to even think about this, because I've sunk no small amount of money into my CZ-75 (trigger job, competition sights, competition hammer, a bunch of magazines, etc), It shoots like a dream, and helped a rank amateur like me hold my own at the range.

Should I wait a little longer to see if 9mm prices will be coming back down to ~$9/box? Or is ~$19/box officially the "new normal?" And if the latter is true, is there good reason to hang onto a 9mm?

Itll come back down, to 9 a box im not sure buy if you look at the current time it can be had for about 13 a box of 50, or 23 a box of 100. Just remember if you really want a .40 it never hurts to add a new gun to the collection

I shoot a lot of .40 and I was having a pretty hard time locating ammo. I wouldn't necessarily say there wasn't a shortage. Having said that, I would say keep the CZ and look for another gun in .40 if you can afford to. Hopefully you have some better luck finding 9mm in the near future.

Of course it is worth keeping. I was wigging out, myself, because 9mm either was so over priced (compared to what we were used to paying) or it just wasn't available...then I found out about this place: http://www.northgeorgiareloading.com...=10&listtype=1

You can get once shot brass reloads (guaranteed to be one shot from police training facilities) with new fmj bullets set at 1150 fps for $.30 per round. I purchased 1000 rds at a show for my wife's 9 mil 1911 and ran a good 50 rds of slow fire just to test the guy's "if you try it, you'll buy more" comment. Turns out he was right. It is very consistent and actually groups as well as WWB, 50 yds out, out of a 9 mil 1911. It isn't Stan Chen, but what is? I was fairly well impressed and I'm a little critical of ammo for the $. I'll be getting a little more than 1000 rds on the next go round (show in Sept) for my daughters 9mm's.

FWIW, we are not going to see new in the box 9mm ammo for $.20 a round anymore. Those days are history.
BCM and Glock...for a bigger pile of 'cold dead hands' brass.

RELOAD. Get a Lee Anniversary Kit for just over $100, and make your own ammo.

I still don't under stand why you people don't reload. the brass is the most expensive part of a round of ammo and you leave it on the ground. you don't need a progressive press just a simple single stage press and you could be turning out about 200 rounds an hour.

I see you are in Dauphin County. Trop in Elizabethtown has the most choices of ammo right now and had several types of 9mm in stock ammo starting at $15.50 per 50rds (target ammo). I was there yesterday.

They didn't have any of the elusive 9mm bulk cans (magic unicorns as I call them) but the they had more 9mm in stock than I have seen in a long time...

Time is my main factor. I reloaded in years past but gave it up because when I factored in component costs and MY TIME it wasn't worth it.

So he can switch from a desperate search for ammo to a desperate search for primers and powder?

I vote to keep it and buy a .40.
The gun is the cheapest part of the investment.
Down the road you can decide if you still want to keep the 9mm.

I got primers, powder, and bullets all through the panic at stores near me. They are even more available now. Tons of it.
