Default Looking for AR15-Based Self/Home Defense Instructor

    Hello all!

I'm looking for an opportunity to become more proficient with my AR. Does anyone know of a reputable instructor or class that would suit a beginner well?

    Thanks!

My wife and I took a pistol self defense class for Dynamic Force Institute out in Hunlock's Creek and highly recommend him. He was great. I primarily took it so my wife would and I was still enthralled by the info he shared. I am not sure if he has an AR class, but I think he might, or could do one if you ask. Check out his website at

let me know if you have any further questions.

About 10 minutes from Wilkes-Barre. I'd be willing to travel though.

Have you tried looking at the "training courses" section on this board? It seems like there are 15 different providers offering basic carbine courses.

I don't have any scheduled for the rest of this season, but I'm sure somebody does.

I have been running classes at the Lebanon County Police Combat Pistol Club.

Click on the training tab. Let me know if you have any questions.

A little hike for HomeFront89 but for guys in Western Pa I would recommend START, http://www.strt.us/ Frank Hoagland runs the facility and is a 19 year vet of the SEALs including Team 6. He's an excellent instructor and even an experienced shooter will learn in basic courses as well as the advanced classes. The facility is top notch and is about 45 min from Pittsburgh.

May I ask why you want to use an AR for a home defense situation? If you miss, the bullet is going to travel, through walls and everything else. Plus it is a little harder to maneuver a rifle in tighter places. If it's what you have, I applaud you for becoming more proficient with your weapon, I wish more people were like you. But I would use either a pistol or shotgun for home defense.

.223 penetrates walls less than 9mm, so it's a good HD choice in that regard.
