Re: Buying a hand gun from my father ?????
IANAL: But immediate family members (mother/father <--> son/daughter and spousal transfers) do not need to be transferred. That being said, it is in your best interest.
Stay armed my friends.

Re: Buying a hand gun from my father ?????
No, and there's no reason to spend the money and create a paper trail for the gun purchase unless you and your father have trust issues with each other. IMHO letting the ownership trail go cold with your father is better than unnecessarily reporting the transfer to the state.
Excerpt from the quoted link above:
18 Pa.C.S. § 6111: Sale or transfer of firearms
(a) ...
(b) ...
(c) Duty of other persons.--Any person who is not a licensed importer, manufacturer or dealer and who desires to sell or transfer a firearm to another unlicensed person shall do so only upon the place of business of a licensed importer, manufacturer, dealer or county sheriff's office, the latter of whom shall follow the procedure set forth in this section as if he were the seller of the firearm. The provisions of this section shall not apply to transfers between spouses or to transfers between a parent and child or to transfers between grandparent and grandchild.

Re: Buying a hand gun from my father ?????
At the very least I would get a bill of sale. All it takes is one idiot cop to "run the serial number" unlawfully and see that the name in the non-existent record-of-sale registry that isn't a registry doesn't match you, then he confiscates it and you have to "prove" to a court that it's yours. At least with a bill of sale, you have something that says "hey! It was a family transfer and it's mine! Go pound sand!" Just my opinion...

What reason would they have to confiscate it? You can legally "borrow" and carry a handgun.
