    Default Postal Meter M1 price?

I decided there are few older military rifles to add in the safe. I looked at a Postal Meter M1 that appeared to be in good shape. They shop was selling on consignment and asking $1300. I asked if would entertain offers but were firm. I know very little about the worth, any insight if this is a fair price?

Not nearly enough information I'm afraid. If it's a typical post-war rebuilt mixmaster the price is ridiculously high ($750-$900 would be reasonable). On the other hand, if it's a good restoration with all or mostly correct parts, the price could be fair. Finally, if it's an original condition bring back with correct and factory original parts, it's way under priced (could bring $1700 or more).

To know which of the three it is for sure you'd have to take it completely apart and note all the manufacturer's marks on the small parts and have some knowledge of original patinas, correct cartouches, etc. A quick and dirty test would be to note the serial number and barrel manufacturer as well as the rear sight (flip or adjustable), barrel band (bayonet lug or not) and safety (flip or push button). With that basic info I could tell you if it's worth pursuing further or not.

Did PM make a garand? If its a carbine it would have to be pretty special.

Double ditto. I could give you a spot on value if could see the weapon in detail.

NPM made M-1 Carbines only. Springfield Armory and Winchester were the only WW2 manufacturers of the M-1 Garand.

Intl. Harvester made M-1s during the late Korean War era as did Harrington and Richardson. Those two were not involved with WW2 M-1 production at all.
