I gave them my stuff and also told them i was carrying. The one officer said" Thank you for telling me". he told me to becarful going thru the yellow light and gave me everything back .Then he said have a nice day. Not every cop you meet is a butthole!!

A good guy Philly cop? Should have asked him if he goes, or anyone he knows goes to DomeLights.

I beleive someone far wiser than me started this notion elsewhere, but Ill bring it up again; if you have a positive LEO experience, be sure to get his card, or at least name and dept., and send a letter in to their commanders commending them on responsible upholding of the laws and rights.

If you do that in Philly the office may be up on charges or at the very least on suspension for not arresting someone under Philly's new laws.

Why does just about everyone who gets stopped by police tell them they are carrying?

Because the other officer that was standing on the other side saw my weapon on my hip and i didn't want to give them any reason to think otherwise. It didn't hurt me and it made them feel at ease. This is Philly not the suburbs.

Philly cops have always been pretty good to me. They have let me go a few times on traffic violations once they see all of your paperwork checks out. I find the cops in the burbs are the ones with the sticks up their you know what.

My question would be why wouldn't you tell them? Its better to be open up front instead of possibly having a misunderstanding later

the reason is you are under no obligation to do so.

when they ask me the standard "Do you have any drugs, alcohol, or weapons in the vehicle" i respond with:

"I have nothing illegal in my vehicle, why have I been stopped?"

I have been on the wrong end of unprofessional, uneducated, and scared cops when informing of my carrying, so to prevent guns being thrust in my face with no reason, i no longer inform them out of "courtesy".

frankly, I prefer my safety over thier "peace of mind".

OK, now that makes sense ... you've changed my mind on how I would approach this. I had told my wife to inform them if she got stopped but now I think we will change this.
