    Default .45ACP+P and Taurus 1911's

Anyone with experience in shooting +P ammo with a Taurus 1911? I ask because their booklet doesn't recommend it. I don't know if they are being overly cautious or not.

I bought a couple boxes of Hornady TAP ammo because I wanted to see if it performed any better than the Federal Hydra Shok I usually carry. Generally I shoot Winchester white box and then finish with a magazine or two of my carry ammo.

Most manufactures don't recommend +P, but most guns seem to handle it ok. I have never tried it in my PT1911, so I can't really give you any other info...

Converted mine to 45 super. 1,000 rounds thru the weapon with out a problem. Shooting +p add a 18.5lb recoil spring and you should be fine.

    From the Taurus 1911 manual:
    .
Taurus pistols were designed to use cartridges loaded to the limits shown
below. Other cartridges of various types or bullet weights may or may not
function acceptably; such ammunition should be thoroughly tested by the
user before relying on it. Because of the widely differing specifications of
such other ammunition, Taurus cannot be responsible for malfunctions
    resulting from its use.
    .
“Plus-P’, “Plus-P-Plus” or other ultra or high velocity ammunition generates
pressures significantly in excess of the pressures associated with standard
ammunition. Such pressures may affect the useful life of the firearm or
exceed the margin of safety built into many pistols and could therefore be
    DANGEROUS.

if the manual says not to I wouldn't, it might not just be a spring issue chamber pressure isn't something to mess with.

But +p is rather useless with today's modern hollowpoints. Your adding more recoil for no reason at all.

I agree! The .45acp isnt meant for speed or distance so why the need for the extra powder and wear on the gun? It is a 800fps flying bowling ball

The Hornady TAP box states that the ammo is recommended only for firearms recommended by their manufacturers for +P ammo. I'm not familiar with any .45acp pistols with such a rating, but I'm no expert on all the various offerings. Is it because of the 1911's design (don't flame me ) or just a Taurus thing?
