Default Felon and a gun in the same household

    Hi everyone,

I have a buddy who I took to the gun range last week and he had a blast but he is restricted from buying a gun because someone in the house is on parole. The person on parole ends in April which I know he cannot have a gun in the house until then, but the next issue is two people in the house are convicted felons. (Drug charges).

Is he allowed to own a gun even if 2 felons are in the home? He would of course buy a safe and keep it in a place where no one could have access to it but himself. He's a responsible individual.

    Any insight would be great,

    Thank you!

My insights it would be playing with fire. In so many ways.

Best advice to give him is to move as soon as possible!

I should have explained more in the original post.

They're his family. They are not drug addicts (they were on the distribution side and were caught.) They are not the type of people who would go and take his gun by any means. The gun would be safe in the household, it is just a matter of the law allowing him to have a gun reside in the home. He has been a good friend of mine for about 6 years now. (Might sound like a short amount of time, but I'm only 22.) The convicted felons are good people and made mistakes in their life. I'm not making excuses for them but they would not attempt to take his firearm.

If he could move out of his house, I'm sure he would but he's still in school as of now.

Offer to keep the gun at your house away from the felons.

Those guys can be good guys. But those guys can have very bad friends. One owns money to another and as a solution to save his ass points out a safe in his house full of firearms.

I would call the sheriffs office and ask. Bet he says no. Felons and guns. Don't mix.

While you're at it, ask him about open carry.
While many claim to support the right, precious few support the practice.

Lots of people have gone to school while working and supporting themselves. In my opinion, both of those should come before buying a firearm. That said, if he does buy one, he should consider that there are serious risks. Three individuals in the family with records is not a good situation.
