Default How do you release the slide on reloads.

After firing dry and the slide locking back and inserting a fresh magazine how do you release the slide?

Weak hand over slide palm down on the top rear of slide just in front of the rear sights. Where I learned to shoot a sling shot or using the slide release earned you push ups.

I'm assuming by slingshot, it means what you are describing. I think the term slingshot refers to the action of pulling the slide back just a bit and allowing it to move forward under the recoil spring force. When you say sling shot, do you mean pinching the slide between thumb and forefinger at the rear of the slide, behind the rear sight? If so, I don't do that, I do what you describe, sort of, weak hand over top of the slide, but squeezing the slide between the meaty part of the palm at the base of my thumb, and my fingertips. My palm doesn't actually touch the slide.

By sling shot I mean weak hand over the rear of the slide near the rear sight using the lower palm and finger tips.

To me this is the sling shot method:

I voted slingshot, but I took rack the slide as described by the previous posters. I guess I should have voted "other".

If I hold my M&P with a 15 degree tilt when inserting, slamming the mag home releases the slide about 95% of the time. When it doesn't, I go weak hand over the slide (thumb pointing to my chest), gripping the slide serrations with my fingers and heel of my hand.

Yeah I meant the over the top method I just couldn't think of the proper terminology.
