generally the slide release with my strong hand thumb, though depending on the weapon I will sometimes slingshot over the top of the slide. When firing with my non-dominant hand, I always slingshot over the top.

Re: How do you release the slide on reloads.
Great stuff and probably the best comment was "more time spent on training" or something to that effect.
Reminds me of...."so what's the best pick-up (old guy word) truck?" and we all know....hope that doesn't start a flame!
Repo, yeah I like it...if possible.
Comment: someone mentioned that their slide goes home when they slam a mag into the well. I have a BHP (a real High Power) and it's a piece of metal and wood art but the Browning slide will "go home" when I slam a slide in the well but on close inspection it's because there are so many rounds through this piece that there has actual been some wear in the slot/groove on the slide and with a slam...it'll go home. Something I should fix.
Also maybe check the O.D. on your slide stop pin area.

Re: How do you release the slide on reloads.
This happens but is very rare. It generally only happens with 1911/2011 style guns with extended ejectors. It happens when it is time to unload and show clear after pulling the slide back with GUSTO the extended ejector contacts the primer and acts like a firing pin. The round detonates way out of battery and bits of case and un-burnt powder go flying. In fifteen years of shooting competitions I have only seen it firsthand once. The shooter had cuts in his hand from the case and was shaken up. The gun was fine after getting all the case and powder out.

Re: How do you release the slide on reloads.
An addendum to my first post but hopefully a helpful one.
grabbing the slide over the top with the weak hand serves another purpose. It helps to ingrain a "gross griping" technique in your memory tract so you can use a similar actions.
The handgun can be pushed forward with the strong hand while snagging the rear sight on a pant belt loop or the belt itself.
Too, push the slide and grip it in the crook of the strong side leg when in a kneeling position.
Yeah, I know...in these situations the slide lock release would be used...but...if you don't know the firearm and it has 17,000 levers on it....
Sgt Steve Good talk!
