pistol ammo & walmart
i went to walmart this past saturday to buy some ammo for my pistol and some shotgun shells. this girl i know was working the checkout in sporting goods-as she was ringing me out,she asked if the one box was for a pistol?
i was stumped-apparently walmart asks this question for all the ammo they sell and if the answer is yes, they hit a certain key on their register and the info goes to corporate. something about being able to trace it back to the person buying the ammo using the time stamp and video surveillance.
anybody else heard of walmart doing this?

It's not that, you have to be 21 to purchase handgun ammo, and only 18 for other....it's posted there....now as far as going to corporate? Who knows...

Am shocked because I shop at that wal-mart every time I visit my best friend
in Ridgbury township and never had this asked to me. I will be up to see him in June sometime and will see if they ask me when I buy some ammo.

That is a new corporate directive, I believe, WalMart is saving the video surveilance tapes from the sporting goods counter instead of recording over it.

There is a simple solution I learned from board members awhile back..

Walmart has the cheapest ammo in town! They have 100 rounds of .40 for around $22 anywhere else..it's $17 for 50. Last time I was in there...some guy asked me to turn around and face the camera...i said what the hell was that about? He said they want to record who buys ammo. I wasn't sure if he was jerking my chain or what.

Re: pistol ammo & walmart
Wal*Mart has been doing this for years. It is ridiculous. They insist on asking people who are obviously in their fifties if the ammo is for a pistol because they won't sell "pistol ammo" to someone under twenty-one. When I objected to the question a few years ago the woman told me that it was state law. I tried to educate her but she had no interest in listening.
"Do you want the bullets or not?" She fairly shouted.
Since my young son was with me I decided discretion was more important than making a point. Too much aggravation for buying .22 rounds.
Not all stores do it the same way. Some do not ask. It seems to depend on the manager, and more importantly the person who is called away from stocking the shelves to man the sporting goods desk.Never underestimate the value of early training.

So if it's for your full-auto carbine, they don't care? That's cool.
FWIW, I've purchased 9mm from three Wal-Marts in the Pittsburgh area (one box as recently as last month) and no one's ever asked me this question.

Next time I buy ammo for the .45 if they ask which they never have, I will tell them it is for my pet fish they like shiny things.
