Rust and my 1911
Of all my guns, I love my 1911 most of all. Unfortunately, being a miser of what supply of .45 ammo I have, I haven't had it out to the range in a loooong time. I carry IWB and while giving the 1911 it's monthly breakdown and clean, I noticed a bit of rust on the safety and the little spring loaded pin it makes contact with. Guess all the salty sweat I produce got metal hungry.
Anyway, what's the best way to remove and prevent more rust? Is there a reputable smith in my area (between Erie and Pittsburgh) that would refinish it?

Look up Allegheny Gun Works. I have the same problem with my guns, but it seems to have stopped since I started running frog lube.
There's no such thing as a free lunch.

Re: Rust and my 1911
Some fine grit should get it off or some steel wool. CLP Break free has great rust preventative properties and I wipe down all my 1911 parts with it. Even with a 're-coating you will have the same issue. The tolerances of the 1911 are generally so tight the finish is generally taken back to the raw in many high wear places rather quickly. Periodic total strip downs and lubrication is the only way to prevent rust.
