The mini-14 is more ammo tolerant than the AR-15 type rifles. It will handle the hottest loads because it has a NATO spec chamber and it will still function with very mild reloads. The skinny barrel just won't group well as it heats up. It may shoot a good 3 round group. But don't try to enter a match that requires a small 20 round group.

No problem. Thanks for the in initial link. I followed it and then went down further in the thread to find the link to the new one. He seems to be editing the one post to update it so the link should hold for a while.

could you expound on this a bit...given that many (maybe most) ARs are chambered in 5.56 NATO rather than .223 rem (even though most people end up shooting .223 rem out of their 5.56 NATO ARs)?

Best I understand it, M193 is a 5.56 Nato pressure round (read: hot) that some of the fancier ARs can't handle, but any Mini can. Same with the Winchester version Q3131.

Some of the Wolf and American Eagle Ammo is in .223 Remington at the lower "SAAMI" pressure which is safe for the AR thoroughbreds. Also, in the past some ARs were chambered for 5.56 or .223 but not both. There is a slight neck variation. Minis can fire either as can most ARs today.

Oh here's another one: some ARs can't handle steel cases like Wolf. Minis can take it.

Mini is better in so many ways, you'll love one, until you want to buy a spare part or mag. Well, guess I still love mine anyway.

Anyway that's my story and I'm stickin;' to it....

This may have been answered before (searched but didn't get the answer I was looking for). What's the difference, if any, between the wolf black box and wolf military classic ammo? Aside from the old black box lacquer coating.
I've seen the black box cheaper than the military classic & Vice-versa. What's the story?

Made at two different plants, hence the two different boxes.

Wolf has not made lacquer coated ammo in years. Any you find is merely left over.

I've shot about 1k rounds of Wolf MC through my Bushmaster with zero problems.

I have no experience with the black box stuff in my AR, but I've never had a problem shooting the 7.62x39mm through my SKS.

Thanks for the clarification. Much appreciated!
