Keltec .22 conversion or seperate .22?
So I'm in the market for a .22 but I'm having a hard time deciding. Should I go with a twisted industries .22 keltec pf9 conversion for $225 or purchase a seperate .22 for around the same cost? One can always use a new gun but the pf9 has the perfect application.
Thoughts?

Re: Keltec .22 conversion or seperate .22?
That's a tough one. Going the Keltec route would likely save you $100 or so. I really like the PF9. I don't own one because it kicks like a mule. But I think it would make for a great 22lr pistol. I've been tempted to get one to convert. I guess an alternative would be a Ruger SR22 which seems to get good reviews.
Edit to add:
If you own and carry the keltec buying the conversion turns it into a great trainer.

Well it would let you practice more cheaply. The PF9 has a long trigger, and more trigger time won't hurt.
I found both triggers to be terrible to me so the triggers are on a scale to me.. The Glock was a crisper suck and the XD was a more mushy suck. They are in the same family, SR9 (heavy suck), Glock (crisp heavy suck), XD( lighter mushy suck), M&P(heavy mushy suck).

I carry an xds. I received the keltec in a trade but figured why not use it as a .22 as well

In that case buy another full gun. You can't have too many after all.

buy another gun, for 225 is pretty much the cost of the kel tec.
Having a devoted 22lr handgun is a must for any gun owner.
or sell me the kel tec and use the cash for a new 22.

Ruger SR22.
Comes with a threaded barrel adapter. Decent trigger. It's basically a P22 without any problems. It eats damn near anything.
$350 I think?
Conversions don't always run 100%. And usually run less reliably than any purpose built 22 pistol honestly. The PF9 has a junky trigger pull. If you need to train on it, the conversion may be valuable. But you will also introduce a metric ton of rimfire fouling into your gun as well. Another thing people don't always think about. 22's are dirty. Do you really want to clean it all out of a PF9 when you are done?
Or do you really want to carry it full of filth?
If you already have an XDS I'd probably almost never carry the PF9 anyway. On paper the gun seems like a great carry option. Except it's not as compact as you'd expect despite being thin. And I found carrying a sub compact Glock just as easy. With a much better trigger.
Don't know how useful the PF9 would really be with a 22 conversion.
I vote no.
I was considering doing the same thing with a Glock to get a 22. I didn't and I'm glad I didn't. Mostly in part to how nice the SR22 really is. It's so reliable it's almost recommendable for self defense. Seriously. Accurate too. Short reset on the SA trigger allows for blistering fast follow up shots. (See also- the whole magazine if need be) It wouldn't be my choice. But if it were my only choice like in a hiking scenario / in a pack etc. Man it just works. Buy one. I was a hater, and saw the light...Last edited by Asmodeus6; July 18th, 2013 at 01:36 PM.
