Are there any initiatives to abolish PICS?
If not, there aught to be. I've read one too many complaints about it.
Two months ago after trying to purchase a firearm in PA, I was placed in an undetermined status. Finally, after challenging it and waiting, I received a letter from the PSP that stated, in part,
"Please be advised your challenge concerning the recent PICS background check has resulted in a finding that you are not prohibited from the purchase/transfer of a firearm."
I can't tell you how happy I was to read these words. I encourage everyone who gets placed in an undetermined status to challenge the darn thing. The PICS background check should be abolished or reformed. Hopefully, I won't have to go through this crap again; but just in case, I have the letter to prove it. I think I'll frame it.

Make copies of original and store it in a safe place. Bring a copy each time you purchase a gun, or at least the PIN that was given to you.
If you let the FFL know ahead of time that you have a PIN he can option to go straight to operator and give it to them first - thus saving a little time.RIP: SFN, 1861, twoeggsup, Lambo, jamesjo, JayBell, 32 Magnum, Pro2A, mrwildroot, dregan, Frenchy, Fragger, ungawa, Mtn Jack, Grapeshot, R.W.J., PennsyPlinker, Statkowski, Deanimator, roland, aubie515

I would rather keep it. One more barrier between me and the Fed.

Re: Are there any initiatives to abolish PICS?
Absolutely, it's a whole lot better to have the system local, responsive to 12 million Pennsylvanians, instead of you being just one of 300,000,000 Americans with a gripe against the NICS system.
We can't just get rid of PICS, all we can do is swap it for the Federal system. Then we get all the efficiency of the Post Office and Veterans Administration, and the warmth of the IRS and NSA.
Do you really want your approval for a gun or an LTCF to be under Obama's thumb instead of Corbett's?Attorney Phil Kline, AKA gunlawyer001@gmail.com

Re: Are there any initiatives to abolish PICS?
I understand you are not concerned with the voice of 300,000,000 Americans. I for one can die happy now that I can buy a gun in PA, although I would be a lot happier if there were no Democrats in the White House.
I hear the Democrats want to build an amusement park on the moon. I am all for this. I will vote for any initiative that allows for this along with a one-way ticket for the Democrats to go there. I am hoping they will all be very happy there.

Because guns are scawwy and only big ol' meanies want guns so they get to trample your and my rights for the children.
/sarcasm
This is merely the sad world we live in. We let it happen too. There was a time when a person could buy a gun at the local hardware store and slip it in their bag with nails and a hammer with no questions asked and no gubmint permissions.
We've allowed this to happen.
