It happens though and there isn't anything illegal with shooting a button buck. It's really a moral issue and most hunters wouldn't intentionally want to shoot the next generation of potential trophy bucks to fill a doe tag (or at least I'd like to think that).
Yep, same here. He was actually in a group of three or four antlerless deer and had a pretty long neck so I thought it was a mature doe. The antler nubs were completely hidden by the fur. Never would have taken the shot if it ever crossed my mind it was a button buck. Oh well... he was still delicious.

I'm going to try to make more time in my schedule this year so I can get out more during the season and not feel pressured into taking a doe right away due to limited hunting time.

    +1 to that!

If you mistakenly kill a button buck you can take some comfort in the fact that the eating is amazing.

I'm glad I don't seem to be the only person still waiting for my 3-D tag lol. Lackawanna county sure cashed my check fast enough, but still no pink envelope.

Easy way to tell does from button bucks. Look where the neck meets the head. Does a have real skinny necks and long slender noses. Button bucks Have thicker necks and short blocky noses. Tracks: Does feet are long and slender, Bucks leave a rounder track.

    Rovert97,

I actually mailed mine out for 3D on the Tuesday of the first week they were accepting doe permits. I haven't gotten anything back yet so that is usually a good sign.

I got mine back on Monday or Tuesday of this week. Have to see how many are left for 4c to see if I'm going to try for another.

Should I mail in for my doe tag in 2C or just go to the treasurers? Didnt get the license until Wednesday.

Last count 2C had around 11,900 left

In regards to 2C, I'm not really sure if they offer over-the-counter doe license sales. I've gotten doe licenses for the 2C WMU (/Somerset County area) for a long time and have never actually gone to the Courthouse to get a license.

My suggestion: Have a doe application ready with check and pink envelope in-hand and go to the Treasures office this Monday. If they do over-the-counter sales just give them the application and check and get your tag. If they don't do over-the-county sales you can simply drop the pink envelope in the IN-Box or hand deliver it for processing.
