newbie hunter
Hello all,I know this may seem rudimentary to some but bear with me. Being extremely brand new to hunting.I just recently attended a hunters / trappers education course and quickly applied for 2013/2014 hunting license. I'm confused as to what I just received in the mail. It looks as if there are a bunch of sticker /tags. I understand that these affix to the animal once harvested. However, there is one thats the actual hunting license. Is this to be laminated or affixed to something? whats the proper way to display this? Seems like everyone at the course had some sort of hunting experience and this being my first time out i want to do things right. oh. I plan on bow hunting if that makes a difference. I have a bunch of questions and i'm looking forward to your insight. Thanks

I didn't know Newbies were in season? Are they hard to stalk? Have any good recipes?

all you get is ridicule, laughter,
and a trip to the house of pain.

Re: newbie hunter
some are tags to be attached to the carcass after you kill the game, some are your licenses. your licnese no longer needs to be displayed while hunting, so just make sure you carry it with you in the field with your id.

Re: newbie hunter
Here are types of yellow 'tags' that you get when purchasing a PA hunting license:
Tag #1- Doe application - can be filled out and sent to your County Treasurer to apply for a doe permit. Only necessary if you apply for a doe tag.
Tags #2 & #3 - These tags are your actual license. One has your CID# in a very large font. The other tag has your name, address, and DOB, etc..
Tag #4 - Spring Turkey tag to be attached to your Spring turkey at time of kill.
Tag #5 - Fall Turkey tag to be attached to your Fall turkey at the time of kill.
Tag #6 - Antlered or Flintlock Tag to be used to tag your antlered deer.
You will also have yet another tag that represents your PA Archery tag. This isn't to be attached to any animal, but merely shows your lawfully allowed to hunt Archery.
All these tags need not be displayed prominately as is previous years, but simply kept in your possession on your hunt (pocket, pack, wallet, etc...)
Hope this helps and good luck hunting this year.Last edited by ettorment1916; June 30th, 2013 at 05:50 PM.
If gun control worked, Chicago would be like Mayberry, instead of Thunderdome.

Re: newbie hunter
I'll also add that I use a "zip tie" to attach these tags to whatever game animal needs tagging. Deer's ear or turkey's leg..... Works quite well.
Safety pins or a piece of string also will work if you don't have any zip ties.If gun control worked, Chicago would be like Mayberry, instead of Thunderdome.

Re: newbie hunter
Read the book that comes with your license. It will give you all the information you need along with all new laws and regulations.

Re: newbie hunter
do not laminate or store in the small folder sent around by the hunt club mag. this will make the ink become unreadable(UNLESS THEY FIXED THAT PROBLEM)

Don't leave it in the sun, like sitting on your dashboard all day.

Re: newbie hunter
no need to display
agree with the poster who said read the manual. it is a bit cumbersome but really has everything you need to know.
rep inbound for taking a hunter/trapper safety course. took mine 20 years ago and am proud to say i got a perfect on the test (my instructor told me it was the best score he had seen...maybe he was lying but it sure made a younger me feel proud).Montani Semper Liberi
