Re: First Firearm
I have seen several NRA Basic Pistol courses listed that provide the firearms and ammunition to shoot. You may need to drive 150 miles or so, but better to try out different firearms rather than making a $500 mistake.

Re: First Firearm
I also have the same experience with the instructor in Hunlock Creek. As a newbie, I am excited over learning everything I can about safety and the laws here in PA. Got my class set up for Saturday.

Re: First Firearm
So Father William, are you going to see Bob for First Steps/Defensive Handgun on Saturday? I hope you enjoy it as much as my wife and I did. He really opened my eyes and taught me some things.

Re: First Firearm
The time spent at Dynamic Force Institute was fantastic. It was not a training session but rather an educational opportunity. I was rather nervous at first but Bob's mannerisms quickly put me at ease. His methods of education are top shelve and very professional.
The class size was small which is something I always enjoy, it gives much more time for student interactions and questioning time without being rushed.
I totally enjoyed trying out the ten different guns and the interaction between the Insructor and myself on how it felt to me, how to handle it properly, crisis interventions etc. He wasn't trying to sell anything, but rather was more interested in how it fit into my life style and would it be a possible weapon for me for self defense.
I will definately be keeping DTI in mind when anyone asks me about good, no excellent gun safety programs.
Best wishes and keep safe.

Re: First Firearm
I can't stop singing his praises. Even when the class is over, he offers free time for extra range time to try out ones new gun or to get more comfortable with the one you have.. WHAT A GUY !!!!
Best wishes PSU Paul

Re: First Firearm
Father William, I feel the same way, and my wife too. Glad you had a similar experience. I also went back for the follow-up time and enjoyed that too! It was different because he worked on holster draw techniques with me since he knew I had interest in that area.

Re: First Firearm
May I strongly suggest getting in touch with Robert De Mott of the Dynamic Force Institute which runs a class on gun safety which he uses many different types of pistols. It is an excellent program. You can reach him at 570-477-3113. I found it well worth while.
Best wishes,
Father william
