What can a LEO see on stop?
When stopped for a traffic violation does the officer check or automatically see your Criminal History (convictions). Fairley basic question just curious and trying to settle a debate here at work. Thanks in advance.

They can now access your medical records online and see if you're on some type of anti psychotic medication but you'll never know if your 10 year old daughter is taking the morning after pill.

Re: What can a LEO see on stop?
This is an interesting question and I'm sure it varies state to state. When I lived in NJ, they would sit by the road (started years ago) and scan license plates. This would automatically give the LEO information regarding THE OWNER of the vehicle. Outstanding tickets, warrants, unpaid fines, unpaid registration, if stolen, etc.
However, if my son were driving the LEO would not know anything about him until the license is scanned. My wife works for a company that has to do background checks and it's quite easy and quick. I would assume the same goes for PA...However, I only know the workings of NJ, sorry.
@Jennifer G,
Don't get me all worked up on the "abortion pill". I'm amazed and appalled about this "law". Any age, any child and they don't have to tell their parents. A 12 year kid gets to determine if an unborn child lives or dies but they can't see a PG-13 movie, pray in school or lead another kid to Christ. Sorry for the rant... I mourn for this country.Last edited by mikelets456; June 11th, 2013 at 02:08 PM.

Re: What can a LEO see on stop?
In Pa if a police officer makes a traffic stop, he will normally run the vehicle plate and driver’s license information via Harrisburg. The information that comes back for the vehicle is the vehicle owner’s information (what’s on your registration card) and if the vehicle is entered into NCIC as stolen. For the driver’s license, the officer gets the drivers info (what’s on your driver’s license) including your SSN, if you are entered into NCIC as wanted, and if you are a plaintiff or defendant on a Protection from abuse order. Anything else such as criminal history or driver’s history, access to the State Police Firearm registry the officer will have to run these checks separately. Normally they will need a specific reason to run a criminal history on someone. They cannot get medical history. (Including medications someone is prescribed).

On a separate screen, we can see if you are not a Steeler's fan, and issue citations accordingly!

Re: What can a LEO see on stop?
It all depends on what kind of computer set-up the officer has in his car. On mine I can access Penn-DOT checks of your license and registration as well as NCIC/CLEAN checks of you, your car, boat, gun, or "item".
To check your criminal history, access your drivers history, look at your arrest photos and do other good stuff I need to access J-NET. Which is more involved and requires my logging into a separate network through use of a smart card that contains all my user certificates and electronic credentials.
Oh... I can't check your LCTF from in the car. Only the county 911 guy can do that.
