Took my wife out for her first time tonight

Hi,

I'm psych'd.

My wife has had a mild interst in my handguns for a while.
Since I started to carry I've been suggesting, on occasion, that she should really be more familiar with the guns.
She agreed but didn't really have her heart in it.
Last week, SHE brought it up to me !

Tonight I took her to the range with my 1911's and we rented a Kahr sub compact 9 mm. ( i'm unfamiliar with these and wanted to try one myself. )

So we're in the lane and I'm going over the safety precautions with her and showing her the differences and similarities etc etc.
All was quiet, no other shooters.
While I'm talking the guy in the lane next to us begins to fire.
She nearly jumped out of her skin.
Neither of us were prepared but her reaction was priceless.
The look on her face worried me though, she looked like a deer in the headlights, kinda like, " what have I got myself into" look.....

We shot the 9 and both the full size and compact .45's
She's little with small hands and I thought the Kahr would be a good match.

We went through about 200 rounds and by the time we were done she decided that the .45, full size was her pick.

The .45 scared her at first but she hung in.

In fact when I thought she'd had enough, she looked at the remaining ammo and said, " can't we shoot these too?"

She's not much of a shot yet and needs lots of practice but I'm proud as can be of her. I've gotta shiteatin' grin just thinkin about it !

I am proud of her and happy too. I now will have no problem with her next Xmas, Birthday, anniversary etc etc gift.

Sorry for the long post but I had to tell somebody. I'm psych'd up.

Congrats to you and your wife. I hope to one day do the same with my wife. She may get a better understanding of my obsession. Who knows, maybe it will be OUR obsession.

I used to do alot of indoor shooting and I have seen this happen alot. Funny as hell. We used to have a tradition that if we walked into a quiet range we went right for the .44 magnum. Thanks for bringing back good memories.

Congrats! I used to shoot with my wife (girlfriend at the time) years ago, but have not been able to get her to the range in recent years, although I still keep trying. I highly doubt she's ever going to be my range partner, I'd just like to make sure that if something ever happened and she grabbed my pistol for defense that she'd be comfortable enough to hit what she's aiming at....

My girl will shoot anything her hands will wrap around. She's not a gun nut by any stretch, but she will not let a chance to shoot something slip past her. She prefers her .22s and she WILL NOT shoot a shotgun. Too many horror stories have crossed her ears (like the time my dad and I talked my mother into shooting one ).
