Raystown Lake?
I realize this post may be regional, and I apologize for that.
I live 25 miles from Raystown Lake. Grew up in an aluminum rowboat on Juniata River before the dam was built. Was running a 17 foot boat up & down the lake when 7-Points was nothing more than survey stakes.
I am planning to rent a slip at Raystown this year & will be staying on my boat most weekends.
My question is this... Since the lake is managed by the Army Corp of Engineers what are the laws about CC & OC? Can I carry at all?
If I can not carry am I allowed to have a shotgun on the boat?Last edited by Jailkeeper; April 23rd, 2008 at 10:33 AM.

Re: Raystown Lake?
That's a good question. Isn't Raystown considered a Federal Waterway? If it is I don't think the rules would be much different than a National Forest, which I believe you are allowed to carry in.
You are a brave soul for staying on your boat during the weekends. That place is insane. There are so many people that go there on the weekends is almost hard to enjoy yourself while constantly being thrashed around in your boat. Call me a wuss, but 2-3' chop takes a toll on the body after a day on the water.Machinist for hire - Get a hold of me if you need something made

Stop and read the rules sometimes, but I believe Army Corps of Engineers Lakes are posted No Firearms. Not sure if they hold weight, but last I knew they were posted......
Glock Pistols.......So simple a Caveman could fix them!

Re: Raystown Lake?
I grew up on Lake Raystown (in a small town right on the Lake).
I couldn't imagine living on the water on a weekend. That place gets ridiculous.
Anyway, only info I know is what the Corps says about campgrounds - not sure where staying on the water comes in, doesn't say anywhere on the Corps site where you CAN'T carry.

Re: Raystown Lake?
+1 on shotgun shells in a flare gun.
The only way you could do it is if you register the flare gun as an SBS (short barreled shotgun), maybe in this case it would have to be registered as an AOW (any other weapon) and pay the $200 for a tax stamp.Machinist for hire - Get a hold of me if you need something made

Beautiful place. I've CC'd there before no problem.

Re: Raystown Lake?
I agree, Raystown is very beautiful. Especially in the fall when the leaves are turning. If you go over after school starts you practically have the lake to yourself (weekdays)!
I quit boating at Raystown on weekends 20 years ago. Too many crazy people!
I am planning to sleep on the boat at the slip. Should be much calmer there.
You folks have me thinking (and chuckling)... Suppose I have a flare gun loaded with a flare (legal, right?)... BG comes busting through the door of my boat intent on killing me... With unbelievable speed I grab my trusty flare gun and shoot BG with a flare (hey, Steven Seagull did it in Under Seige 2)... Yes, I know I will have to come up with something impressive to say while I blow the smoke from the barrel of my little orange flare gun.
At that point just how many laws have I broken? I was thinking about this earlier. Hell I could die of old age before all the charges were figured out! And yes, this email is meant to be fun, totally sarcastic.
