Re: Gunsmith in york
I was aware that John gave up his FFL. I to wonder if he is still doing gunsmith work for local, "walk ins" ? No FFL needed for that.

Lower your expectations to zero and you'll never be disappointed.

Re: Gunsmith in york
Don't bother with Freedom Armory. They won't do anything other than mount scopes. Gun Bunker will take a job like re-bluing, but actually they subcontract work to another shop.
If you are willing to go to the Buck in Lanc. Co. you might try Mallin's. 717-284-2778. Jerry Mallin used to do bluing jobs regularly, but I know from experience that he can take his own sweet time getting around to doing a job.

Re: Gunsmith in york
Yes and no with Gun Bunker. I've had them do very minor work and give me a quote on bluing a revolver. When I was quoted the price, I opted not to have them do it.
As for Freedom Armory-
About three years ago I had a sporterized No. 4 Enfield that some boob had cut the charger bridge off the rear of the receiver in the process of making it a sporting rifle.
I only needed them to level the cut off sides of the charger bridge, then add a plate on top the gap so I could put on a set of rings and scope the rifle.
Freedom Armory refused to do the job.
I eventually found another local guy (now also out of business) to do the job for $50.
I also bought a Savage 10 from them without sights. Same story: FA wouldn't even mount a set of open sights on the action.Last edited by Ecclectic Collector; June 5th, 2013 at 08:29 PM.

Re: Gunsmith in york
Steve's a good guy, he's sent me business I've done the same for him. He mostly works evenings and weekends if I recall, but don't quote me on that. He has more of a machine shop setup than I do, but I'm just getting into hot bluing and I do trigger work so it works out well for both of us!
I don't mean to speak ill of anyone, but as far as I know Freedom Armory does not have a formally trained gunsmith. I have my share of limitations as the business grows, but I can definitely do more than scope mounts

Re: Gunsmith in york
Not to jack a thread, but I'd rather not make a thread for such a similar question.
Looking to get the headspace checked on my Ishapore. Anyone know of a place?

Re: Gunsmith in york
They do, yes.
I was hoping to find a place I can drive to and deal with directly.Last edited by REBELoffaLEASH; July 17th, 2013 at 12:42 PM. Reason: freudian typo
