Default 1851 Yank Sheriff steel frame

Its a Traditions 1851 B&P yank sheriff 4 /38 barrel pistol, 44cal. Looks like this:

LGS has one for $165, never shot! Been fightin' the siren call of a cowboy pistol all weekend, then see this. Should I pass?

My extremely uneducated opinion is yes. Buy it. Why not. Sounds like a good price to me but I know nothing about them or BP. I'd say it's a sign though if you've been thinking about something like it.

Might want to look into what they mean by "old-silver frame" finish, I read this as unfinished steel (read: rust appearing twice as fast as it normally would).

Also note '51 designs are open frame, meaning no top strap. IIRC, a notch in the hammer tip is the "rear sight".

If this is the right gun for you get it.

I bought a repro 1858 Remington in stainless:

Gloria: "65 percent of the people murdered in the last 10 years were killed by hand guns"
Archie Bunker: "would it make you feel better, little girl, if they was pushed outta windows?"

Held it in my hand, checked fit, finish and function, didnt see anything out of the ordinary. The silver is a dull "old-silver plate" finish. No tarnish, engraving seemed shallow though. If I lived near my cousin, Id have him deepen the engraving for me. The box is an old one for sure. It has a Pietta manual in it (built by Pietta for Traditions). Italian made.

Yup, open frame. Looked into a 45lc conversion kit for it, it exists.

Found out Pietta uses a softer steel, so I am instead holding out for a used Ruger Single Six.

Most black powder handguns are made with leaded steel (details), not just Pietta.

They're safe to fire with the recommended loads.

Black powder revolvers are really fun to shoot.
