Yes, there's now one standard format statewide, which includes a photo.

Gone are the days of them and grocery stores asking if you'd prefer paper or plastic.

I would think that that form has been around for a long, long time (1960s?); hence the older term used <shrug>

Yup, jumping through illegal hoops really made your life easier.
Sorry Streaker some one had to do it!

BTW in Berks County you can be in and out in under 15 minutes.

Streaker's LTCF probably has "VALID WITHOUT PHOTO" printed on it.

Dave - Since you live in Red Hill you need to go to the Skippack Barracks. It normally takes a few weeks to get it done.

I live in Abington Township. As others have stated, the local police check card isn't "required" but the sherriff may make you wait the full 45 days without it. I went to Abington PD on a friday and put in my request for the check card. They were extremely friendly and just said come back in 2 weeks. I had to laugh because saying "come back in two weeks it will be done" is just a way of making you wait. Anyway, I went back 2 days shy of 2 weeks and it wasn't ready. I went back two days later, on a friday exactly 2 weeks after I submitted the request and it was ready.

I took my check card, which was free by the way, to the sherriff's department and gave them my check card, had my picture taken and was out the door in 15 minutes with my LTCF.

It's a pain in the ass because you have to wait. But I have mine, and I'm happy now.

Am I still able to take the local police check card to them or will I have to go to the closest PA state police station (Skippack)?

    Thanks for your time!

I just got my local check done in Lower Salford township, I was told in Norristown that the local police check is more or less a formality. If the police are willing to sign off on it (if they feel you're within their jurisdiction), then it will be accepted. I would call in and ask. I got it done in about 4 days altogether; they were pretty prompt with getting it done in my township. Aside from the *required* local check being against state law, I can't see any downside to getting it done. Lower Salford didn't charge me though. My understanding of this is that it requires that the local police department checks your criminal background. This is apparently supposed to be done by the Sheriff during the 45 day period during which the office will "investigate" your fitness to have an LTCF. Therefore, while not *required* that you perform this check, it is a time saving measure. I probably would have argued about it if it had cost me, but altogether I am glad it went as smooth as it did.
