Default Glock Gen 4 differences...Not what you think

This is not about the diffs between Gen 3 and Gen 4 glocks, this is an observation about Gen 4 glocks only, and I find it interesting.

I just purchased two new glocks, one on Monday 5/20/13 and one today, 5/23/13. Monday's purchase was a Glock 21 Gen 4 New and today I picked up a Glock 23 Gen 4 New. I also had but traded away both a gen 3 glock 23 (bought 10/2010) and a gen 4 glock 22 (bought 02/2011).

So here is what I found regarding these two Gen 4's I have in my hand:

Glock 21 Gen 4 (Factory Test Fire dated 02/17/2013.)
-Finish is like my previous Gen 4 g22: dull, flat, matte, and bluish. I know this was one of the updates made in Gen 4.
-Trigger is like my previous Gen 4 g22: smooth, not ribbed
-Recoil spring assembly color is a light gray color, just like my gen 4 G22

Glock 23 Gen 4 (Factory Test Fire dated 03/30/2013.)
-Finish is closer to my gen 3 g23: porous finish, blackish color, glossier, slipperier to the touch
-Trigger is like my previous gen 3 g23: Ribbed
-Recoil spring assembly is a brownish, grayish, greenish color.

Also - the rollmarks on the slide are way deeper and rougher/sloppier on the g4 g23 than the g4 g21.

So, I am not sure if its just the different model production lines but my g21 g4 and my g23 g4 have differences. Yet, their production date (or at least test fire date) are so close together. Also, my older g22 g4 was just like the g21 g4 in color, feel, and trigger design.

I will add pix because I know this thread is worthless w/o them, but I just thought this was an interesting observation. Any comments or ideas on why glock would make these guns different in this aesthetic aspect?

I have an early Gen 4, I'd be interested in see the pics of your more recent gen4's.

Mine was manufactured in 5/10 I believe, and has a ribbed trigger. strange they would change something like that

Regardless of generation, all full size Glocks have a smooth trigger. All compact and subcompact Glocks have a serrated trigger.

Maybe for the same reason the AK74 has a grooved butt stock while the AK47doesn't. Easier to identify by sight.

Looking at my two Gen4 Glocks now….
Glock 22 Gen 4 (Test Fire date 7/23/2012)
-Finish is: dull, flat, matte, bluish. As expected
    -Trigger: smooth, not ribbed
    -RSA: light gray in color

Glock 27 Gen 4 (Test Fire dated 6/2/2012)
-Finish is: looks the same as my Glock 22
    -Trigger: ribbed
    -RSA: light gray in color

Rollmarks on both look the same – clear, same depth, neat appearance.

BTW, both were purchased late last year. I thought I had read of a recall on RSA assemblies for earlier production G4 Glocks. They were replaced by the factory. I do know that some RSA are of a different color depending caliber. They were having problems with cycling.

You may want to check out the Glock forum(s) and see if you can find out some additional info.

I wish I had a smaller gun and less ammo

Compact have a grooved "target" trigger to get enough import points. They can be swapped out with the smooth triggers from the full size models.
