Mosin UK 59 project - need a gunsmith
In search of a gunsmith in SW PA that can mount a Czech UK59 barrel on a 91/30 receiver. Need the job done well, so this won't be a bubba job. Any suggestions?

If you don't mind driving three hours to Carlisle. http://mccauslinrifles.com/
They can surely do it.

just my opinion, but the barrel is worth more in original config than in a 91. there aren't that many UK kits around and the are way up in value. if a receiver becomes available, your barrel will be desireable.

If the barrel was original Id agree but Im betting its one of the ones classic arms sold a few years ago that was turned and threaded for the mosin, wich makes it "useless" for a uk59

do you already have a stock with a wide barrel channel? If you are already spending money have them turn the widest portion of the barrel off so it looks more "normal"

Re: Mosin UK 59 project - need a gunsmith
I was already planning on having a custom stock built for the rifle - didn't plan on going with a bubba ATI... But, yeah, I planned on discussing whether or not the ugliness left over from the UK at the receiver end of the barrel could be trimmed off to give a nicer finish, as well as the new crown touched up with hot blue.
That said, I looked into the differences between the hex and round receiver for the build, and honestly, my skeptic radar is kicking in and telling me that there's no discernible difference between the two for the build. Anyone know or think differently?

Works for me.
Is he competent with a trigger job for the rifle? I'm probably asking too much to have a mosin nagant trigger brought down to a weight I like (12oz-1lb (yes, I understand how light this is. But, before I get flamed, I like it)), but if it is at all possible, I'd like to do a one stop shop.

round and hex recievers are the same, use what you have/or like. I wouldnt spend the time or money on a stock trigger, If you are already spending money get a timney trigger plus it gives you a "useable" saftey http://www.midwayusa.com/product/559...lb-steel-matte
