Remington 788 this was 2010 I believe. I can check and see if I still have the membership badge just to be accurate.

But I remember that it was election week. Not sure if it means anything.

The president was some one around 5'10",skinny probably about late 40's early 50's. Short hair on the gray side. At least he introduced himself as the club president.

It was about the time when the new rifle range was opened.

I am a calm and average shooter. I don't do any crazy stunts. I just want to hit some targets, I don't do running shots, barricade shots or anything alike. The only thing I like to do is shoot as I would in real life. Double tap or maybe triple. That's my only vice. I am as safety minded as anybody else and I never
never had an accidental discharge and believe me there was a time when I was shooting 30K+ rounds per week.

Your other issue is that you have members signing for people they dont even know. So instead of it being a "precheck" or "endorsement" you really have just made the members signature a formality. Which, for me, means the club is more interested in gaining revenue of new members rather than only allow people that are know to be safe and trustworthy.

    YMMV
How about give the poor guy who doesn't know anybody a chance and then weed out the knuckle heads. Another way of looking at it huh? I am finding it hard to not leave a flaming screed reading all the negative crap so I will just say I love the club and a very big thank you to all the guys who have put the time and effort into lower prov to make it so great.

Although I like FCO and enjoy shooting for $1.00 on Tuesdays - ladies' day!....it would be nice to meet up with some friends at times convenient to all of us. FCO also does not have a good variety of activities from what I can see.

A couple of people contacted me about meeting up and visiting the club as a guest. I will do that, ask lots of questions, have some fun shooting and make an educated decision on whether or not to join. Thanks everyone for your honest input on this thread

That is a good idea. At the end of the day its probably not much different than many other clubs. If you can ignore some of those members that think they are hot stuff, you should be ok.

I think it is more a sign that it is not a closed minded cliquish club. You do not have to "know" someone. Everyone is welcome to join and learn and become safe shooters and archers.

That was before I joined, but I cannot think of a past president that fits that description. It puts it in context, though. I have heard stories of hard-ass board members, but I think those days are in the past. I go to the club regularly, enjoy it and have not had any such encounters. Hopefully you have found a range/club that meets your needs.

and that is the reason you have so many pages in the by-laws.

If they simple just removed the issue without feeling the need to try and create rules that kept it from happening, it would be a different story.

Then why bother have a member sign at all? Why force new people to be there on a tuesday "no exceptions!"? Why make people take their courses? Why can members that joined before 2008 not have to qualify for certian things? Why are you only qualified up to a certian caliber?

That doesnt sound open to me.

Dont get me wrong its a very nice facility. The few people that I met there that were not my friend/escort were very nice. But the hoops to jump through just to do certian things. I can live without.

It seems you have an axe to grind and you have some half-facts. I don't know what the issue is, but I am not going to argue with you about it.

I don't know where you shoot now, and it is not my concern. I do hope that it offers you everything you want and need and that you get to continue enjoying the shooting sports.
