Default PA to stop issuing non-resident pistol permits?

Is there any truth to the rumor that PA is about to stop issuing non-resident pistol permits?

I'm not aware of any change in the law on the subject. Some sheriffs unlawfully refuse to issue to qualified non-PA residents, but that's just because no one with standing has successfully called them on it.

PA's "Shall Issue" clause also pertains to non-residents regardless as to what some sheriff's do.

In fact, their failure to practice "shall issue" to non-residents is a 1st Degree Misdemeanor.

On a web search I did find this tidbit where the Sheriff mentions NY, still no cutting out non residents LTCF's though.

MILFORD – Requests for concealed carry permits are up sharply in Pike County, and the county sheriff blames what he calls a “panic mode” in neighboring New York.

Sheriff Phil Bueki spoke at Wednesday’s Pike County Commissioners Meeting about gun permits, concealed guns, and common sense with guns. He said many people were in panic mode feeling that the government will pass laws to take away their rights to bear arms.

“People coming from New York State to Pike County have been the cause for the marked increase in permits issued in the county” Bueki said. “People from New York outnumber Pike residents by a 10-1 ratio.”

Recently the office had a request from someone in Ohio asking about a concealed carry permit, Bueki said.

Pennsylvania law says that a person having an unrestricted license in any state can come to Pennsylvania to get a concealed carry permit. Bueki said that’s the reason for Pike County having so many requests from New York residents. The permit also only costs $20 for five years while New York charges $200 per year.

When asked why Pennsylvania doesn’t charge more for the permit, he said that State Police are in control of that, not the Sheriff’s office. The Pennsylvania Sheriff’s Association has tried to get prices raised and have failed at all attempts.

Bueki explained that a full background check is done on anyone applying for the gun permit. A person is checked for any juvenile records, arrests, protection from abuse orders, and any mental health records. The sheriff’s office gets daily reports from mental health facilities. If anyone with a permit is on the list, their permit is revoked immediately.

About 150 requests are denied in Pike per year.

Heh. No, actually it's the legislature.

There is so much misinformation in that thread it is almost painful to read.
While many claim to support the right, precious few support the practice.

    Why?

Wouldn't be to deny lower income members of society from their God-given rights would it?

Course not. That'd sound awful. It's to "keep guns off the street"

    Yeah that sounds better.

``Just got my PA non resident pistol permit. The sheriff , great guy, came out and let us know that PA is on a push to stop non resident permits . Pike county will stop taking applications on 5/17/13 . I tried to put a link to the application , but the site is down. I don't know if it for this reason.``

It`s the underlined comment that`s concerning.
