Exclusive: Shootings by Philly police soar as violent crime plummets

The number of violent crimes fell last year in Philadelphia, as did assaults on police officers.

But the number of people shot by police is up.

    Way up.

The number of shootings by police in 2012 resulting in death or injury climbed to the highest level it’s been in 10 years. Philadelphia police shot 52 suspects last year while responding to calls for reported crimes. Of those shot, 15 people died.
Not to be confused with PAFOA member John Doe from Montgomery County, PA

Crimes committed with guns are dropping below 1965 levels....ban guns!

Devil's advocate: simple math. Violent crime is down concurrent with police shootings up = they're shooting the right people.
While many claim to support the right, precious few support the practice.

Maybe more criminals are just joining the Philly PD in order to be able to murder with impunity?

Thats my conspiracy theory and I'm sticking with it!

This is a good idea, but in order for this to true, The PPD would have to be doing there jobs!

Well, I may as well get beat up again...

I have personally had very good luck with both the Philly GPU and most Philly Cops. Yeah, every now and then you come across one having a bad day or stuck on stupid, but for the most part the cops I've interacted with have been professionals. Do I wish, for example, they'd get out of their car and issue a ticket to the asshat parked in the middle of the street instead of ignoring him? Damn straight! But, I also realize that for the most part there are too many "priority calls" for them to spend much time on the annoyances that we have to put up with...like did I mention the asshat that keeps double parking on my one way street?
