    True that.

Everyone on the planet has heard of Colt, it is a known name-brand. There will be others better or cheaper in one aspect or another, but if you ever have to re-sell it - folks will know it by name.

Holy crap all of the people on one thread agree on something, maybe they should lock the thread and make it a sticky, as an example, lol

Go with the Colt, I did and I am glad I spent the extra money. I did it for the peace of mind for the "Just In Case" events. I can't afford to shoot brass cased so I save that ammo and shoot steel cased through my Colt exclusively and I never had issues. Smith and Wesson makes a unbeatable sidearm in the M&P 9 semi-auto, makes a top notch trainer AR in the M&P 15-22 but Colt makes a far better combat rifle in the 6920 IMO.
Sanity, yours if you can keep it.....

Thanks guys I'm set on getting the colt. I have to ask though does anyone have experience with the m & p sport. My buddy who also is thinking about purchasing an ar doesn't have the funds for a colt and is set on the m & p. Any input for him?

I have had a smith and Wesson m&p 15T and I loved the thing but had a chance to trade it on a POF. Althoug I don't know about the sport model I definitely recommend Smith and Wesson. I have liked every gun I have owned from them and I have toured their plant where they make all there own forgings and do all the machining. Very impressive operation...

You still did the right thing by buying the 6920.
    I just bought one too.

    Yes.

The older Sport with the Nitrocarbonized 1/8 5R barrel was a great, well made gun at a ridiculously good price ( I saw some @ $500 ) when they came out.

That being said the price has gone up ALOT and the desirable barrel setup is gone. With todays price on the Sport model and the lesser feature set, there is absolutely no reason other than impatience for him not to save the extra $$$ and grab a Colt 6920 from Walmart. Emphatically tell him that no matter what he ( or his significant other ) says he will spend ALL of the difference Derrping his AR up anyway in short order. Resistance is futile......
