    Default Why aren't sights adjustable?

I've had my USP for a few years, the wife has had her Bersa and I've played with some other guns both high end and low and one thing still amazes me...

why can't I adjust the sights on most pistols? My USP I've actually removed the center white part of the front post and aim through the sight, the Bersa I need to aim low about an inch at 10 yards...

Is there a reason or is it just cost?

    Each handgun is designed differently.

I've got a Hi-Point C-9 9mm. Its rear sight is fully adjustable (left-right, up-down). Total cost (plus sales tax & PICS fee)? $158.40.

As some of you know, I carry 9x18 but I would never carry my civilian Russky Makarov. Its too easy for the adjustable rear sight to hang up while drawing it.

A lot of pistolos with adjustable sights have this problem. Just need to pick and choose carefully.

If it can be adjusted, they can drift and are more prone to breakage than a good fixed sight.

I've got to use a factory-supplied Allen wrench to adjust my sights, with a little bit of force. For the rear sight to "drift" would require considerable usage, way more than a box of ammo. Of course, I'm not aiming at a target 100 yards out, so I don't worry too much about such.

Fixed sights are more rugged and reliable. No moving parts to break, no springs or screws to fail. In a defensive sidearm, KISS is often the best way to go.

I like fixed sights... it's one less things for me to screw up. If you practice enough with your pistol it really doesn't make a difference...

I practice front sight blade only for personal defense now...lycan foo explained why i should be doing this.

Working on from the holster as well for times when I can't fully come into position too.

Can you explain what you mean by that?
