    Default Holster frustration.....

Yesterday, in an attempt to buy a leather holster that actually fits my 3" SP101 Ruger I went to:

Dixie's Gun Shop in Hughesville, PA
    Gander Mountain in Muncy, PA
Sauer's Trading Post in South Williamsport, PA
    Troxell's in Williamsport, PA
    Curt's in Mifflinville, PA
    Jim's in Bloomsburg, PA
    Wal Mart in Bloomsburg, PA

There is a lovely Hunter leather holster at my nearest LGS, L&R in Laddsburg, PA but it is left handed. Being somewhat ambidextrous I am thinking of giving it a try.

It was a GREAT day and I saw many cool guns but no holsters like I was looking for. If you want milsurp go to Sauer's or Curt's. If you want real bargains go to L&R. Best handgun prices on new stuff were at Troxell's. Best prices on used handguns with a huge selection were at Curt's. Best ammo supplies were at Kurt's, L&R, and Sauer's. Curt's has a one box limit on pistol ammo. The other two do not.

While I am on the subject, is anyone aware of the different wearing effect that leather might have on stainless steel vs. nylon? So many of the new holsters are in nylon.

I use leather holsters for all of my guns. Have done this for many years. Never had a problem with blued, nickel or stainless.
Look on line. Simply Rugged makes really nice holsters at a good price.

I have Bianchi holster for my K-frame that I really like, I'd have no problem recommending them to others.

All leather here as well with no ill effects on my EDC guns. I've got a Lou Alessi and a few custom holsters by Fist out of new york city. Both are great and relatively inexpensive, but you'll have a few weeks wait before either show up in the mail!

I second Simply Rugged, I have six or seven of their "sourdough pancake" holster and it is fantastic. Highly reccommended. Here is their website:

The GP100 is a common revolver.

Both these makers make holsters for the GP100. I ordered from Tucker already but not Lobo. They make the holster to your barrel length.

Stainless guns wear like iron. I have a 20 year old ex-cop gun in stainless. God only knows how many times it's been in and out of a holster, still looks very good.
Keep your gun clean while wearing it in a leather holster and it should stay purdy for a long time.
I don't mind nylon for IWB carry, but not for OWB.
I love the smell of gunpowder in the morning.[
