Question 16" AR Barrel vs. M4 barrel?

My uncle ordered a rifle kit from Del-Ton.com just last week only be to informed yesterday that Del-ton is out of M4 barrels and back ordered. According to Del-ton they also have regular 16-inch barrels as well. Neither of us knew what the difference was so my uncle inquired. According to the Del-ton rep, the M4 is lighter than the standard barrel, has a better sight radius and also has a better gas system to reduce blow back. Both barrels are chrome-lined with a 1-9 twist.

Alright, I can believe that the barrel might be lighter, but better sight radius? Better gas system to reduce blow back? Sounds fishy to me. Both barrels are 16 inches and both appear to use the same carbine length handguards. Both appear to have the gas block/front sight in the same location. With that in mind, how is the sight radius going to be any different? And what is so special about the gas system in an M4 barrel vs. a regular 16-inch barrel?

Whats the deal? Is the the Del-ton rep feeding my uncle a bunch of crap or is there some truth to it all?

I'd say they're feeding you a bunch of crap. Lighter maybe, but that's about it.

The only difference between a regular 16" and an M4 16" is that the M4 has a cutout for the mounting of a M203 (or civilian equivalent) grenade launcher. The sight radius will be the same (they are both 16" barrels ). The gas block will be in the same place, the buffer will be the same (matched to a 16" barrel). The M4 barrel may be slightly smaller in dia which would equate to a lighter weight. That sounds like someone did not know what they were talking about. I know of several people that built M4gery's with a regular 16" barrel.
