Well, I couldn't post a comment without a sign in, so I wrote the author:

Sir,

I would hope as a professional writer you would have made the effort to fact check this story. An AR15 is NEITHER an "automatic rifle" NOR an "assault weapon". Using the correct words is very important and to use these misleading and inflammatory terms gives a (hopefully unintended) political slant to your article. I would like to read reporting of the actual news, rather than need to view each article as an opinion piece.
