Re: Question about "references" for concealed carry permit
While many claim to support the right, precious few support the practice.

Re: Question about "references" for concealed carry permit
References don't need to be gun owners, you can use neighbors or anyone you work with.

Re: Question about "references" for concealed carry permit
For the edification of persons who might waltz into the thread for more information, would you be willing to give details on the bolded? I'm actually curious about this....especially since there's a big brew-ha-ha going on in Northampton County now on references being checked....

Re: Question about "references" for concealed carry permit
Here you go - it's this one: 18 PA.C.S. 6111(g)(3.1) and 6111(i)
Prince Law's blog has a pretty good writeup on Northampton's issue.

Re: Question about "references" for concealed carry permit
I read the link, but the law appears to leave it open for the Sheriff's office to call the reference about the applicant without disclosing that the applicant is applying for a LTCF. I.e. it seems possible for the Sheriff to call asking "What do you know of ABC? Is he/she a responsible person?" etc. without violating the law. IANAL.

Re: Question about "references" for concealed carry permit
The law seems pretty clear to me - the Sheriff's office can't legally disclose the name of the LTCF applicant to anyone during their investigation.
To me, that does leave some wiggle room about after they 'finish' their investigation.
I am not a lawyer.

Re: Question about "references" for concealed carry permit
Neither were mine I that used in that past too. I used two exgirlfriends for references since I first got my PA LTCF. In my first application in JeffCo the sheriff himself took my application and asked me how are they related to me, I state "exgirlfriend" for each. He looked up at me, chuckled, and said "Are you sure you want to put your ex's as references?" I said yes, and "yeah, if there is dirt to be heard it would be from them."
Since then both ex's have became gun toting card carrying folks. One of which hit the OC rallies in Meadville and Erie. She just got her LTCF a very few months ago and just recently bought a .380 to carry.
The other got her LTCF about 5 years ago and I gave her a Bersa Thunder 380 to carry, properly transferred of course.RIP: SFN, 1861, twoeggsup, Lambo, jamesjo, JayBell, 32 Magnum, Pro2A, mrwildroot, dregan, Frenchy, Fragger, ungawa, Mtn Jack, Grapeshot, R.W.J., PennsyPlinker, Statkowski, Deanimator, roland, aubie515
