Turkey?
Does anyone hunt these things anymore
Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.

Re: Turkey?
I was out yesterday. Heard some gobbles in the distance, but didn't see any to shoot.

Re: Turkey?
Out yesterday with my Dad and my 11yr. old son.
I was posted with my son and we saw about 12 deer but no turkey. In the field next to us my Dad saw 4 hens and took a very long shot at a long beard but missed him.
So, no turkey bagged yesterday but with 3 generations, the beautiful weather, and the outdoors.........I'd say it was just about the PERFECT day.
Couldn't ask for much more except for maybe a turkey breast in the smoker...Last edited by ettorment1916; April 28th, 2013 at 09:27 AM. Reason: spelling

Re: Turkey?
I got this week off from work. I'll be going out for turkey a couple days this week, some trout fishing and maybe even some bass fishing. It sure is a wonderful time of the year.

Re: Turkey?
Went out with a buddy for a few hours yesterday morning. Kicked a bird off the roost then seem some deer. Overall it was a good morning and the weather was perfect.

Re: Turkey?
Its my favorite form of hunting.
Had 2-3 birds gobbling on the hallow below me for 3 hrs yesterday.
Then the darn hens circled down in front of me and cut the birds off.

Re: Turkey?
Not hunting, but I had 3 roosting on my place, its a madhouse in the morning when they start in at each other.

Re: Turkey?
Got a bunch in my backyard, just watched a tom and his hens help themselves to the seeds under my bird feeder. I like the fall hunt less lead in the meat.

Re: Turkey?
Yes. Yesterday made it to the son-in-laws early. The grandson, who's 5, wanted to go and was moving a bit slow. Got to the truck ready to get in and heard a gobbler sounding off... close. Heard no less than 5 birds answer. Change of plans we run up the back yard and set up in the farmer's field that borders their property. After the decoy set up and our set up we begin some subtle calling. Get one to respond and heading our way when all of a sudden he stops dead in his tracks and changes direction. I hear a faint, "there he goes, dad" in my grandson's voice. After the hunt I come to find out that Hunter (my grandson's name) apparently got a little excited and was pointing and wiggling around in an effort to make sure that his father saw the bird. . A beautiful day, and saw some birds, one real close, so I counted it as a successful hunt. Just with no joy at the end. Chalk it up to the learning curve and I wouldn't have traded the experience for the world. Gave us something to talk about at the BBQ, and something to bust his stones about when he gets older.
