    Default Browning M2

A friend has been offered an opportunity to purchase a Browning M2 .50 cal that was removed from a B25.

What are the ramifications/requirements? He wises to do everything above board and would like to own the gun.

Any ideas of the value of such a gun in good and operating condition?

Several thousand dollars to start, assuming it wasn't de-milled to semi-automatic.
How ever if it is the real deal, all monies will have to be paid up front, your friend would have to fill out the required ATF paperwork, send in the paperwork with a check for $200 to the ATF, wait 6-8 month for approval, once approved take home and find a way to feed it.

I'm currently in the process of building a semi M2HB and parts are expensive. A registered full auto M2 will run 15k +, semi version about 8k+. Prices vary widely on the + side on either model. I priced them here on the lower end that I saw some sell for last year, but don't be surprised if you can only find ones costing 2-3x more at any given time.

    Assuming it's an operable arm:

    • If semi-auto only: it should be transferable like any other long-arm. Just a lot more expensive.
    • If auto (machinegun): the seller would first prove it's a transferable machinegun made prior to May 19, 1986. If it's a pre-86 transferable (NOT dealer sample), don't be surprised if the price goes into the tens of thousands, maybe more if original (unmolested) W.W.II. And as previously posted, it will require a $200 tax stamp from BATF with paperwork. Read up on the NFA transfer process. Also make sure your friend lives in an NFA friendly area.

Oh, and 50BMG ammo was over a dollar a round the last time I looked, and that thing will eat it like popcorn. Assuming he finds a shooting range that permits 50 cals. Many do not.

Is this a NFA registered machine gun or just pulled from a wreck and was lying around somewhere? This would make a difference buying it or running away.
