Re: Unexpected open carry benefit
I'm gonna OC at the Sheetz near 30 & 15 this weekend. I wonder if they'll think I'm an undercover 50 YO hippie/ musician? I'll let you know, but I'm guessing I'll pay for the coffee. :-)

Re: Unexpected open carry benefit
Once i pick up my gun in a couple weeks, im going go try an open carry observation experiment.. First im going to dress as i normally do.. your average 22 year old laid back look, flip flops/sneakers, cargo shorts, and a plaid shirt, while open carrying. I'll head to several locations ranging from rural to more densly populated retail and food stores.. ill note the reactions i receive from people.. i'll wait about a month or so, this time, i'll dress like a professional, slacks, shoes, button up and a tie, while open carrying, at the same locations i originally went to, at the same time of day and same day of the week. i'd just like to guage how people react to a person who is open carrying if they think youre an average citizen or possibly someone up to no good, vs the appearance of a professional, probably someone in the field of cj... shit, maybe as a CJ major i could use this for a paper, or get it published some day

Re: Unexpected open carry benefit
most conveneince store chains have permission from local CLEOs to allow officers to accept free coffee only from them, as an encouragement to have the officers stop in frequently.
Personally, I have no issue with it at all, its a 20 cent cup of coffee, not a $100 bribe to get out of a traffic stop
Plus, with a lot of depts doing swing shifts, helps keep them alert I suppose.
I got offered a free soda when i went in to a Wawa one day.
I was not OC, but just wearing this Transformer T, the Police shield from the side of the "Barricade" cop car character
I said thanks, but turned them down and paid for it.

Re: Unexpected open carry benefit
Maybe the clerk just likes the idea of citizens carrying firearms in the open!
Might serve to deter a possible crime!
I always get a smile when seeing others OCing.

Yep same thing here. I walked into the Flying J and got a cup of coffee. I walked up to the counter and handed the clerk a ten and told him to put the rest on pump number....when the pump shut off I noticed i had pump ten dolllars worth of gas. A few days later i did the same thing and got another cup of coffee free.

Re: Unexpected open carry benefit
I open carry somewhat frequently, but I don't drink coffee, so I guess I'm missing out....

Re: Unexpected open carry benefit
No one is ever going to mistake me for a cop, even undercover, unless they need fat, bald, old undercover cops to spy on rednecks.
So I guess it is no free coffee for me, unless I decide to use my OC piece to get it, and somehow, I think that would be a very bad idea.
