Re: AR Issues
Vise the upper (correctly), wind off the flash suppressor with a 3/4 wrench wrapped in electrical tape, oil up the barrel exterior hard, unclamp the gas block and pull her off the front. Get some feeler gauges and start measuring. Re-index with the feelers and bolt it back up.
When you pull the block off you may actually be able to see where the gas block port was on the barrel and see if it was off center.

Re: AR Issues
This is rare, but I was thinking about this........
Sometime last year I pulled a block off a gun that was short-stroking and found that the gas tub pin had been pressed THROUGH the gas tube. It had partial flow, but things were all boogered up. It came that way from the factory, but I can't remember the brand.
So.....you don't typically have to unpin the block from the gas tube when you remove it, but you may want to pull/wiggle the tube a bit to make sure there isn't any play and make sure it's aligned as well (if they are pinned through the hole in the tube, they're aligned).
