Re: model 14 S&W target hammer
I went to a S&W revolver armorer school. Unless your gun is very worn, the hammer will need fitted. The parts are made over sized so that it can be filed to fit. Not hard to do but it most likely not just drop in and work unless there was a lot of wear.

Saleen 322...Fitting? Do you mean to frame or sear. Gun is almost new. Timing is great etc. Please advise...Mike

Re: model 14 S&W target hammer
If the revolver is a new type, it will have a lot of mims parts. Mims parts have a greater chance of having little or no fitting because they are cast to size with a small tolerance. BUT, most replacement revolver parts are purposely made too big so they can work in any revolver. If you take two classic model 14s apart, you cannot swap parts between the two because the parts are fitted to individual guns during assembly at the factory; the parts will not normally interchange. Is it possible you can drop in a new hammer, yes but it will not likely work as smooth because the clearances are not to spec. Revolvers have parts that must smoothly interact with other parts only using the power of your finger so they must fit together correctly. Pistols do not have the fitting issues so this is not a problem when replacing parts in them. Hope this helps.
