Default Would you choose a shield 9mm over a G19?

Just wondering what would people choose over the 2. I know this is a direct comparison due to the shield being single stack, smaller, etc. I know most of the advantages and disadvantages of both. Just straight which would you choose. I have an opportunity to buy a shield 9 but would mean me getting rid of my G19.

If your G19 is with you every day of your life regardless of what you're wearing and where you'll be, there is no problem for the Shield to fix. If there's some days where the shirt you're wearing has to be tucked in and you don't have a jacket or sweater vest, pants fit too tight and/or pocket is too small, or occasion you're going to is too full of hugs and/or prying eyes, and thus your G19 stays at home on those days, then the Shield will likely be with you on days you'd otherwise have nothing. That's where the Shield wins and thus its primary mission, to be able to carry in more places and more days of the year and/or with greater ease and comfort.

I choose to ccw my S&W Shield 40s&w over my Glock 23 about 80% of the time.

    I would say the G19 or m&p 9c. I think The m&p9c is more comparable to a glock 19.

I personally find double stack 9mm to wide and uncomfortable for everyday carry and would go with the single stack.

That being said I would choose the Kahr CW9 over the Shield.

    Simply - NO.

My 19 is my EDC gun, I had a chance to pick up a Shield S&W 9mm for FREE - and declined to take it. Kept my Walther PPS 9mm for my "I'm not carrying a gun" gun instead. (And I don't like the flip/flap mag release on the PPS).

If S&W ever decides (and that might be a big EVER) to come out with the Shield without the external safety - I might look at one then.

But I personally would not have a micro gun as my EDC gun. Yes, there are some situations where the micro's are applicable, but for me; I want my EDC gun to be a "real" size gun.

I love my G19. That's all I have to say about that.

Shield. A Glock (any Glock except perhaps the 36) is simply too chunky for me to EDC. Besides, I just plain don't care much for Glocks.

I have both. 80% of the time I carry the G19 or both. 20% for the shield 9mm alone.

For me....the Glock feels like firepower and the Shield feels like it's better than nothing. Glock goes OWB Serpa retention or IWB Desantis. Shield is in my cargo shorts while mowing the lawn or in my sweatpants pocket when lounging around the house. I would never carry the Glock sans holster but the external safety on the Shield is much less foreboding than I thought. Feels secure but it's a quick thumb swipe while raising the gun and it is off.

In short. G19=I'm prepared. Shield=I'm pretty prepared and gee...comfortable too.

ETA: No...I would choose the Glock over the Shield. You're just gonna have to do what I did...own both.

I like to have a pocket gun for those deep concealment occasions, and a duty or full size otherwise. I wouldn't want to pick one or the other. I personally chose to save up and have both. Good luck with your decision.
