Sending a Pistol Back to Manufacturer for Warranty Work
Someone on another post made me think of this. I know for a long gun, you can take the firearm to a UPS shipping center (the hubs or other approved location) and simply send a long gun back to the manufacturer. That's not a problem, I've had to do that before.
In the past, I've had a pistol that likely could've gone back for repair. It turned out it was simply the recoil spring and needing to be broken in a little more.
However, if you did have to send a pistol back, how do you go about doing that? Don't tell me 'the manufacturer will take care of it' because the one I dealt with did not nor would not.
So, how do you go about sending a pistol back to the manufacturer for repair?
Thanks!

I don't know how they all work, but Sig will sell you a pre-paid UPS label for next day air, which is the only way UPS will ship a handgun.

You will have to go to a UPS place (not one of the UPS stores; you have to go to a main place) and the package has to be declared and sent by next day air. If you are sending it to S&W, Colt or some other big-name manufacturer, they will usually just ship it, but if it is going to a manufacturer the average UPS clerk or supervisor doesn't know (like I had with Kimber), you can call the manufacturer and get them to send you a copy of their FFL. Take that to UPS with your package and you are good to go.
Boy, I say boy, you're reaching the limits of my medication!

different manufacturers have different policies in regards to shipping firearms back for repairs. many manufacturers will send you a pre-paid shipping label for fedex or UPS and others force you to coordinate shipping at your expense. the USPS forbids non FFL's from shipping pistols so unless you're an FFL you have to ship pistols via fedex or UPS overnight. if you live close to hub this really isn't a problem but could be if you have to drive some distance. another option is to have a FFL ship the gun for you but this usually entails added expense in addition to actual shipping charges.

I too have done it with fed ex, scheduled a pickup, had to physically tell them it contained a fire arm, and had to be signed for by a 21 or older person upon delivery.

Re: Sending a Pistol Back to Manufacturer for Warranty Work
Beretta generated a call tag and scheduled the UPS guy to come to my door to pick up the package.
Smith And Wesson emailed shipping labels and I dropped off the properly packaged handgun to FedEx with no problems.
I've also shipped to SIG Sauer via FedEx and UPS. Sometimes they paid, other times I had to. Again no problems.
Normally handguns have to go overnight, and I've found the Kinkos/FedEx places won't deal with handguns, you need to drop them off at the nearest main shipping hub.
