    Question vacation carry(transportation of sidearms)

My family and I are going to Virginia, in order to get there we cross Maryland/Delaware state lines. Reciprocity says I can carry in VA not in DE/MD. The question is how should i trans port my side arm. I was thinking seperate ammo from pistol and case the firearm just like you would when hunting. Any suggestions?

I was wondering the same thing, I'm am taking a trip to NH this weekend, but all the states I go through don't allow carrying. So I can transport a weapon through there, just gotta keep the gun and ammo seperate? I was just gonna put it in a g un case in my suitcase, inside the trunk.

You have it right, gun in locked case, and ammo seperate. By the way, NRA sell a book on all the States gun laws. It only cost $13. It has all the info you need. Just go into the NRA store on their web site.

You can open carry in most of Delaware without any permit - there is a DE OC web site that IDs the 1-2 localities with grandfathered OC bans. See also http://www.opencarry.org/travel.html.

As for transporting under FOPA immunity, see 18 USC 926A, remember that it is a defense to VIOLATION of state law, not a federal requirement. In many or most states, you can travel with concealed guns, open carried guns, guns stored loaded or with ammunition nearby etc. without violating state law.

A lot of people think FOPA commands them to conform their conduct in cetain way when traveling - I have never understood this, but they do it.
